I have been teaching private groups of students since 2005. Classes have included figurative painting, still life instruction, figurative drawing and portraiture. And now I'm ready to change things up a bit.
I am going to offer monthly semi-private classes in the form of a Mentorship. That is, I will be taking on two intermediate or advanced students at a time.
In these 4-week semi-private (2 students) class, students can work on whatever they choose. This could be anything from working from a live model (portrait and/or figure) or working from a still-life setup to working on their own studio painting projects using their very own reference materials. Perhaps a potential student would like to create some preliminary charcoal sketches and then transition to a more finished painting. There are so many possibilities to explore in this class. And of course both students would be working independently. We would begin by discussing and mapping out a plan for the four-week session and attempt to follow a schedule.
I will be teaching occasional workshops locally and nationally, as well.
Beginning in April, I will be teaching at our new fine art school Atelier Dojo Austin in Austin, Texas. Check out our website for details! Denise Fulton, Karen Offutt and Karen Maness and I are the founders of this new Atelier-style art school. Its focus will be on contemporary realist figurative art. We will off a year-round curriculum of drawing and painting classes taught by leading artists in this area, will be hosting quarterly 3-day workshops from masterful artists all over who we believe demonstrate a contemporary realist aesthetic and holding open studio life drawing/painting sessions three times a week.
